Day 7: Kirkjufell!
We stopped a few times along the way to take pictures. The town we stayed in this night was Grundarfjordur. We drove around to see what was in the area. There were a few restaurants, a grocery and liquor store.
How cool is this lava field we found along the way!
Once we were done exploring we headed to Kirkjufell. About 5 minutes down the road is a parking lot. You can park here and get a great view of Kirkjufell and also take a walk over to a few waterfalls, aka Kirkjufellsfoss.
The parking lot was pretty full so be prepared for a lot of tourist in this spot.
We grabbed a bite to eat at 59 Bistro Bar. We were able to use their wifi, so we hung out for awhile before we decided to head to our campsite for the night. The only one in town is very basic. It is basically a parking lot with a few bathrooms, and has an outside sink for washing dishes and filling up water jugs. We saw a sign that said that someone would be around to collect payment or you could pay the following morning at the pool next-door.
wifi wasn’t available, so we watched one of the downloaded shows I had on my iPad.
Day 7 Complete
Day 8: Our last night in Iceland- Reykjavik
We had to say goodbye to our cozy little home, so we dropped off the camper van and got a ride to our hotel in Reykjavik. Cozy Campers gave us the option of receiving free flybus tickets to the airport or a free taxi ride to our hotel. Since we were staying another night, we chose the free taxi ride.
Once we were done checking in to our hotel, we took a walk around the city. We found out that there are a ton of happy hours. We also realized we were out at the right time!
If you are a fan of The Big Lebowski, then you should check out Lebowski Bar. We enjoyed a few happy hour drinks there. We checked out the town. There are a lot of souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants. It was hard to decide which places to check out.
If you stay in Reykjavik, then you must visit Hallgrimskirkja. It is a very beautiful church inside and out. You can pay to go up to the top of the tower and look out to get a better view of the city. We skipped that part and headed home for the night.

We stayed at the Gest-Inn guesthouse. It was very cute! There was a shared bathroom on our floor with a shower. This was a good spot for us. It was close to most shops, restaurants, Hallgrimskirkja and it was within walking distance to the bust terminal. Since we were that close to the bus station, we did not have to rush around the next day. It was a 10 minute walk to the bus terminal. We were lucky enough to catch the next bus just as it was about to leave, but we did end up arriving at the airport 4 hours before our flight departed. YIKES
Iceland was amazing. I highly recommend renting a vehicle and traveling around the whole country.
Until next time…………
